Social Diary Firm Lifeblob Gets $1 Million Funding From Seedfund

By Rafat Ali - Sun 17 Aug 2008 10:34 PM PST

Bangalore-based social diary/networking site Lifeblob has received $1 million in funding from Google-backed angel fund Seedfund, reports Mint. The site, founded last year, allows users to develop a diary of events, though blog posts, images and videos using a “timeline” of events.

Venturebeat: Lifeblob joins an increasing number of start-ups doing variations on this theme. These include Dandelife, Dipity, AllofMe and, in some ways, Plurk.

While I commend the Lifeblob team for building a beautiful (albeit slightly confusing looking - not exactly intuitive from day one) application, I wonder what their revenue model is. Some have suggested that the sale of user behavior related data - but I’m rather skeptical that this will be a credible source of cash for some time - its going to take some time before they build enough traffic for them to mine useful data. The other question that I have is - why have this as a standalone application? Surely integrating with social apps such as FB which already have apps such as ‘events’, makes sense?

Rafat - thanks for your coverage of lifeblob. We have also moved out of closed alpha and the service is not open for everyone to sign up.

@gautam - Our value proposition is very different from that of facebook and the complexity of a service like lifeblob would be hard to manage as an application on facebook. That said, I do agree with you that integration with existing platforms like FB and OpenSocial makes a lot of sense and we have plans to do that.
